I was wondering what sewing machines people on here were using to do their tactical gear and what their thoughts were.

I am looking to get a machine to do some simple stuff that I have been paying for so far to get done that just doesn't really makes sense as I also like to tinker with my stuff.

Thanks in advance!

I've got a gear driven Singer 15-91, Canadian model, that sews everything I've done - chest rigs, mag pouches, small messenger bags, roll top bags, a hammock, and then some. I can punch through about 8 layers of material (500d cordura and webbing) but I try not to get that kind of build up in my designs. I'm talking the wife into letting me buy a walking foot machine though.

The Singer will do you just fine for a lot of projects.

I've got one Dürkopp Adler K267-373 single needle, walking foot for straight stitching, one Juki LK-1900A-HS bartacker and one Adler 20-7 extremely heavy duty for harness type work. Between those three machines I can handle most medium to extra heavy sewing but I am looking to get additional machinery for lighter sewing as well as a double needle machine for binding and a zig-zag as well as an additional harness machine.

I'd get a walking foot machine.

I have a Tacsew T111 which is nice. They run about ~$750 new, and you should be able to score a used one for cheap.

I think I'm going to go with a Singer 15-91 as I don't have that much space and I'm mainly gonna use it to do alterations and hopefully I won't be working with too many layers, seeing that 1000D is largely been going away.

Thanks everyone for the help.

If you got some more money to spend, then you can get a Sailrite Ultrafeed series. They are small, but have a walking foot and will do way better than an old Singer.

I had a clone of those, from a company called Tuffsew. Not really worth the money, but it worked as well. I got it due to space limitations, but I should have just gotten a proper machine in the first place.
