Well, to be fair - the JPC was designed to be a cheap, disposable and easily replaceable solution to a very specific issue. I really don't understand why people who don't jump out of a perfectly good airplane keeps buying them.

I don't know why people who do jump out of airplanes still buy them! I know the rig was designed for HALO and HAHO but it still doesn't make sense to me I me lets be honest here the trade offs in durability for light weight just is not worth the squeeze. I have never personally ran one but dudes around me who have all feel that the plate carrier is less than ideal in the durability department. The thing with your 2nd line equipment is that it is not really a deposable piece of equipment were you have multiples lying around (unless you green or blue).

As far a non mil types buying them, I can only speculate that it is for the "cool" factor of using something that Blue or Green use. Pleanty of other PCs out there in the 250-275$ price range that are better choices than the JPC but appearances and feeling cool are more important to some.

Got an Eagle GRG pouch in. DR made, so pretty mediocre (i.e. on par with my work, and I'm a rank amateur! :P ). Front velcro was tan, wanted it in MC so I swapped it out. Not too much work but because of how it was built I was constrained going lengthwise, and I made a 'boo boo' on the bottom line of sewing. Turned out OK, but I'm a little annoyed. Can't go back and redo it because I don't want to keep cutting and restitching. Also added a vertical 'pull' tab at the top to help flip down the front of the GRG pouch.

Now to figure out how to mount this thing...

*edit - figured it out. I like this design!

Is the slick significantly lighter ? Because I don't really see the point of a slick with front PALS over a full 6094

If you don't need/want side plates, and want to run a MOLLE-only cummerbund (like the Crye or the TYR slotted cummerbund) then yes.

The reason I ended up doing it was because with a front MOLLE or kangaroo flap it's a direct competitor to a JPC for capability at a lot less cost.

I've moved away from the 6094s (though I'm happy to still modify them) and I'm using a comprehensive carrier for front/side coverage now.

I see. Personnaly, what I would miss the most would be the built in radio pouches. Crye JPC pouches or similar are an option though.

I personally like the Slick design because of the built in admin pouch.

Kosmo - Awesome to hear! I would've loved to be able to use it, but I'm glad you're getting use out of it.

Regarding the pads - I can make them to order, turn around time is around 48hrs from request to mailing, and I can make them in AOR1, AOR2, Woodland, and Multicam. Padding is available in 6mm or 9mm thickness (6mm is standard). Standard length is 6."

Cost is $30 + shipping.
