Thanks, I think it's an important topic though, but maybe we should move it to a separate thread since it involves other stuff then medic equipment aswell. :)

No you probably wouldn't but then again you're a member here ;)

What would be the recommended content of a BOK/IFAK kit and where can one most easily obtain it.

I would at least put following items in an IFAK, but more if room and/or weight allows.

  • 1 Tourniquet (1.
  • 1 Hemostatic sponge
  • 2 Rolls of hemostatic gauze (2.
  • 2 "H" compression bandages
  • 2 Rolls of Israeli emergency bandage
  • 1 Roll petroleum gauze
  • 1 Triangular Bandage
  • 1 Chest seal
  • 1 14 Guage (or larger) 3" or long (longer) syringe/pneumothorax needle (3.
  • 1 Oropharyngeal tube (4.
  • 1 Nasopharyngeal tube
  • 1 pair of non latex gloves
  • 1 #10 Scalpel
  • 1 EMT shear
  • 1 Pen light
  • 1 Small roll of duct tape
  • 5 Small and Large safety pins (5.

(1. Have at least one more tourniquet at hand (2 = 1, 1 = none), preferably attached on the center of your rig (so one can get easily to it with both hands). I use the SOFT-T, as it is smaller when packed then the CAT, can be applied single handed, and the windlass can be secured better.
(2. Have at least 2 rolls in case of e.g. wounds with pooled blood, or if bleeding doesn't stop after 2/3 minutes of direct pressure. I use Quick Clot hemostatic products.
(3. For use in case of a (tension) pneumothorax, and can be used as a scaple.
(4. If having more then one size in the IFAK, mark own size as such.
(5. for multiple uses, e.g. to make a tracheal hook, etc.

DO NOT USE TECHNIQUES ONE IS NOT TRAINED IN!

Wow, care to share some pics? SOFTT always seemed bigger and heavier than CAT. And haven't you some issues with securing windlass on SOFTT after few turns (the center of rotation shifts to side, and it's problem to fit windlass into that triangle- happened to me few times on smaller extremities)?

Thank you for reply:)

Negative, do not have a problem. And not only think that the windlass can be secured better, but also doesn't have the tendency to break. Something that happens to often with the CAT.
