Could someone with experience with the tube technology explain me what is so great about it ?
I can't help but being skeptical....

Yep, but what about an accidental release ?
Other QR systems are a bit hard to put into action, but at least they seems "murphy-proof".

Accidental release is extremely limited considering the two simultaneous pulls (one horizontal on the release cord, one vertical on the tubes) you have to exert to open them.
The idea and execution are pretty neat. Basicaly, it is part of the very few options aimed at limiting/removing velcro in fastening systems. Now, as it's already been said, I find the placement of the tubes in certain carrier designs is not perfect, as you are giving away space in critical areas. Wondering if they ever tried to mount the tubes on the back of the cummerbunds rather than the sides.

That would ruin the purpose of quick self release considering how hard it would be to release it on your back, especially in a stressing environment

I was thinking about placing the tubes on the inner, far sides of the cummerbund, rather than just the sides, so that it could actually sit behind a molle row, and let the release cord protrude through the cummerbund/front panel connection. This would probably make it bulkier on the front, but there's some cushioning on FS cummerbund that could easily be removed in order to make way for the tubes. ..

First-Spear Strandhogg in AOR1 (Said the Teams are apparently starting to use these more exclusively)

This is not the Strandhogg, it's the Amphibian. It's First Spear's take in the "6094" plate carrier category with the included radio pouch and ability to use it without the cummerbund.

Here is a new 2013 catalog from Crye. For me the most delicious part of it is AVS.
How do you think, its availability in catalog means it availability on site for commercial sales?

They are assembling them right now for a USSOCOM contract. From the horse mouth, they are pretty confident they'll have it available for retail this year.

It seems that Crye finaly decided to not showcase anything that wasn't almost ready for retail, as they've discovered the hard way that other companies were much faster at looking up new stuff in their booth, copy and refine/twist it, then marketing it before them.
Hence the fact there was only a limited quantity of new gear this year.

First Spear has been saying for a long time their stuff is in heavy use, however I have never seen a single one pictured or in person.

I am glad they (Crye) included images of the components for the AVS, I got a three row cummerbund from a guy with Crye labeling, and have been wondering for a long time what the hell it came from.

I'm real interested in the assault ghillie and the riggers belt, hopefully they will be out soon.

I read on soldiersystem that in summer/autumn 2012 there was s competition for a new contract for a new plate carrier which should replace the MBAV in the SOFLCS.
If I recall correctly Eagle won that contract, but nobody knows with which PC.
Could this maybe be the new SOFLCS PC?

(I´ll look right now for the source of this and then edit it in here.)

Reply from Crye regarding AVS:

Quote:
We expect the AVS will be released for purchase
sometime this year but, given our current production schedule, I doubt it
will be before summer. We will release it on the web store once it is
available for purchase, so please do check in.

Video with the EI Aero-Strike

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnlNIUhMP9g

Pretty sure he called it the MMAC 2313 as part of SOF-BAV?

Also said it will be commercially available as the Aero-Strike

Mentions AFSOC & Ranger versions.
