Most old Eagle gear I see have light tan tags, but then I've seen some with green tags. Is there any significance with the tag colors?

green tag products were generally manufactured before 2006; at least that's the case with coyote brown stuff...

Ah, that works. The items I've seen seeing with green tags have indeed been coyote colored and 05 manufacture date. Thanks!

There are also MJK items with green tags.

So, would you say that all green colored khaki Eagle pouches would be MJK?

MJK is just a made up name for Eagles khaki...

What Essal said. "Matt Johnson Khaki" or whatever it was.
Just a name referring to a specific shade of khaki.

Oh, I had thought that Eagle had two shades of Khaki. An earlier MJK, and then a later one designated as KH on the tags. On that, it looks to me like the 5KH is a slightly different shade than the KH.

"KH" is MJK, but 5KH is probably a new shade, ushered in around the same time that they brought in 5RG as well. No idea how it's different from regular MJK though.

Thanks for the clarification. I've noticed the 5COY is slightly different as well. I understood the 5 to signify 500D Cordura, but if so, the color shade changed as well, and not just the fabric.

If the 5 stands for 500 denier then that could explain the slight difference in color, as different thickness yarns absorb the dye in various amounts. It's easy to see with Multicam, a bit harder to see with solid colors.
However, if we are talking about a solution dyed color (like cb 498, tan 499 etc.) then there are specs that define what's acceptable and not. RG has a number code (can't remember it), but I've never seen at khaki code..

I thought about that, but had no real idea just how much color shade would change with fabric type. But that would make sense why the 5 was placed in code for the color designation as it's essentially a different color, even if it's the same dye.

A more likely reason, is that since Eagle realized the different fabric would affect the color either way, and saw it as an opportune time to tweak the dye for all their colors and set a "new" standard with regards to color.

I have no clue about how "much" you are talking about, but ie. USMC Coyote Brown is 498 and that means that there will be very little variation in all CB 498 products (unless they are off spec). 1000D, 500D and 330D should in theory be identical, and they most likely are under flat light, but light can make it seem different due to the various thickness in yarns.

RG didn't (afaik) have a solution dye code until pretty late after it was introduced.

I'm guessing that the 5COLOR thing is just a simple way to separate 500D products from 1000D products since they are NOT the same, even though they will look pretty identical unless you look closely.
