These are some general guidelines for posting pictures in this forum part. We will most likely make additions to these guidelines with time. So keep checking back, and if you have any ideas for the guidelines and this forumpart in general, please make a post in THIS thread. We will then take it into consideration and then delete your post to keep it clean. :)

-If possible name the source and add a link to the page you found them, unless this violates PERSEC/OPSEC rules.

-Include the story behind the pictures if you have one available. The more information the better.

-Make sure you do not violate PERSEC/OPSEC when posting pictures. These men and women have family and friends as well. Show them the respect they deserve. All images depicting MIL, LE or Govt. personell where the faces are visible, need to be edited and have the entire face blurred out/blacked out. Also make sure to PERSEC any nametags and callsign patches, and remove/XXXXXXXX any names in the captions for the images.

With regards to images released by the DOD for publication with captions and names, would it still be ok to reproduce them here?

We enforce complete PERSEC on ALL IMAGES, that includes those released by the DoD. No exceptions. We dont have the time to browse through the web to see if image X is officially released by Agency Y or not. Its simply to minimize the amount of unneccessary work.

Alright then, just to be sure...

In fact maybe you'd like to add that to the existing guidelines too.

Add what? I think the "all images" part of the guidelines is pretty descriptive as it is :P

Some (Me for example  ) may think that it's alright to post images that have been cleared by the DOD for publication while in actual fact it's not over here unless it's been PERSEC-ed and OPSEC-ed.

The addition of the "that includes those released by the DoD. No exceptions." should make it extremely clear.

If you don't understand the words "all images" I think you should get a dictionary instead of more gear

All images sounds pretty clear to me....
Since like simpen said, it's too much too say yes to this one, no to that, maybe to that....
I too have found myself like man, I'm just linking to a pic, but I do get it now.
So if i feel it's relevant to the conversation, then I don't mind taking the minute to save the pic, persec it, host it on photobucket, then post....

Agreed, if "all images" is hard to understand I have lost hope in mankind. Thread locked.

A brief update to the guidelines on photo posting - as mentioned above ALL photos posted here need to be PERSEC'ed via the above guidelines. Regardless of the guidelines elsewhere on the Internet, at GEARSOC we believe it is imperative to respect the privacy and security of the men who do this for more than a recreational past time. Our individual opinions mean very little weighed against their right to privacy, and it shouldn't be up to any of us to make that decision on their behalf. This is the basis on which we will enforce the PERSEC policy here.

The only exception to this is our servicemen on the forum who chose to post un-PERSEC'ed photos of themselves. If this applies to you, be sure to state in the text that it is you in the photo so Mods/Admin don't mistake it, as well as PERSEC anyone else in the photo.

Simply put, if it is not you in the photo you are REQUIRED to PERSEC regardless of the source.
