 Well Fish, I don't see how the Jackal could act as a replacement for MRAPs because the crew seems to be fairly exposed to fragmentation and the explosion itself (granted I know fairly little about explosives). I only knew them as a mobile weapons platform, but hey learn something new everyday.

Well, IEDs tend to be underneath the vehicle when they detonate - and the Jackal is designed to force the power of the blast outwards and away from the vehicle.

Granted, they expose the crew to incoming fire, but that's a trade-off that sometimes is the sensible way to go - they do provide pretty decent protection from buried IED though.

The early Jackals were nicknamed ''The Amputator'' SFSG blokes full on customised there's a few years back and called them Cannibals. I)

That and they are designed to launch the occupants out instead of the potential for over pressure inside a sealed vehicle.

One of the force protection limitations with the Jackal would be its vulnerability to IEDs placed level with or above the vehicle. Whilst it does have, as correctly identified by other posters, good protection from sub-surface IEDs, there is a risk to the crew from 'above surface' IEDs and direct fire weapons. Kevlar panels in the doors and around the Gunners position mitigate some effects, not not all. The MRAP-type vehicle provides better 360 degree protection, but at a cost; weight, stability, reduced situational awareness for the crew. Bottom line is though however well protected you think any vehicle may be, it can usually be defeated if the explosive charge is big enough.

The guy to the right used to be a member os this forum as far as i remember, and i think he would be proud that you confused him as SF =)

I would say in most Danish units, people dont care about what gear you use to do your job, they care more about how well you do it, especially if you are in Afghanistan like the two guys in your picture.

But again, it depends on the unit you are with. The places i have been it was like, at least try to use the same camo pattern (paying for Crye yourself would be okay) and use your issued gun (while it may be heavily upgraded).
As an example:
Issued M/96: http://www.dr.dk/NR/rdonlyres/6036BA64- ... binm96.jpg
And after a few month in Afghanistan, with access to an US APO:

Because we are a small army, we can focus on the most important things. Lucky for us, that also includes the hear and beard regulations, i have seen US and UK troops practice :D

These are Mayflower Research's hybrid 5.56 chest rigs in ranger green. It's looks like older generation ones since there's no buckles attaching the harness to the rig itself.

edit : corrected some really aweful typos

I think the left one is the Mayflower GTG custom rig (DK01 or 02, I forget..).

I don't think so, it lacks the elastic and webbing on the shoulder straps. And fronts pockets don't match (velcro on it and left pouch is an utility one and not a grenade one).

Comparing with the pictures :
