Is it just me, or does a lot of that gear look like airsoft replica gear?

In mainland China you are not allowed to posses airsoft replicas. I actually think this is Chinese army, if the source is good. Interesting that it does look like they are using replica AOR1&2 made for airsoft market uniforms.

Some of these pics are from the KASOTC "games" yeah?

Those headsets/earpros are definitly Z Tactical (replica brand) - you can see it on the black label on the side in one pic! Makes me believe not much in those pics is legit...

My first thought was 'is all the kit real??', it either looks too new, or fake.

It also looks like no one has anything in their PC's...

These are from a domestic chinese movie. No idea about the name (I can't into Chinese, and Google Translate isn't exactly useful to translate movie titles...) but word is that it's got support from the PLA.

Pretty sure that's the SOF games last summer in Jordania.

Not sure about that one... EDIT: That's from the same movie as above.

I'm personally not that much surprised that an actual military force is using replica gear.

That's because their's the same case here in Korea.

A lot of the CIRAS type vest used by the UDT/SEALs and the ROK special forces are actually what we would consider 'replica gear'.

The reason behind that is because this army had no experience about advanced infantry nylon gear (We still use LC-1 type gear and like old old old school LBVs what the US would've used from the 80s and 90s. We barely have MOLLE gear at all), and they had no idea of replicas and real steel. All they thought was the lowest bidding provider in the market and that condition was matched by replica gear. And since the military high heads had no experience with this new fancy gear, nobody possibly knew the differences in IR treatment, actual durability through stitching, and etc.

So as a similar case, I kindda understand the Chinese military using that stuff to actual soldiers. Not that I am saying they are a shitty organization, but just considering the number of their forces and their probably limited budget to buy infantry gear, that may be a plausible solution, cuz hey, they do hold during training.

Anyways, to summarize, not every military has the mindset like us gearwhores of 'real steel' and 'replica'. If you're low on budget, lack the knowledge and know-how of such stuff, new to this whole thing, and infantry gear is near the bottom of your priority's list(probably a result of the earlier reasons), and the stuff just looks right and holds enough, then hey, replica gear might just fit your needs.

Hopefully feedback after getting hit by bullets would change that mindset

I can't not comment.

Here is foreign intelligence services information gathering 101 for you guys.

"Poor" militaries, like China, Russia etc cannot afford high quality gear. They are, however, very interested in this type of equipment for a variety of reasons.

One common course of action for these guys is to look at, and maybe buy copies of, western military equipment. They will then have it reproduced very cheaply, so that they have it readily available.

Make no mistake, that while there might be some small differences with regards to quality of fabric, thread, webbing, manufacturing and so forth, the main difference between cost between high grade western equipment and copies is production cost (labor and design).

Hell, the newest Russian uniform offering is a straight 1:1 copy of the PCU and ECWCS system with some added features. Stuff like this is why ITAR exists.

You're probably thinking of the Gruppa99 stuff... they hired Patagonia designers (the guys who built the PCU Gen2) so it goes deeper than just buying a set and replicating it :P

I got your point though.
