Here's a few pics of my Peltor Comtac IV's

Not sure how well it'll protect for you airsoft types, I hear a bb to the ear hurts like a bitch. I know a SIMS round does...but for the hotter climates, these headsets are definitely more comfortable, a large improvement over the over ear models.

The new gel earcups fit well, even under MICH. It cut down on the "Peltor Headaches" dramatically. Amplified sound is comparable, if not a bit better, to older Peltors or MSA's, just make sure the earbuds actually fit your ears truly. You can switch out earbuds too if you so choose. Comms are good, standard PTT, nothing special there. Comms still TX even when batteries are dead.

Oh and they're light as hell...and on the medical side, I really dug that I no longer have to remove my headset and lose my comms when I need to do more detailed PT assessments, using stethoscopes, etc.

Cool guys, well hopefully this helps,
Take care and be safe out there...

Hah, nice man. No, unfortunately no black square is standard to issue.

A roger on the subsection, as the title states...FNG.

Thanks!

By the way...how do I make those pictures smaller? They look gigantic?

If you host them on imageshack or photobucket they should be automatically resized; anyways thanks for sharing. :)

Doc Drifter I don't know about you, but I don't like those ear plugs, especially not if they are rigid. I had earmolds made out of silicone, and can wear it 24/7 without any pressure.

I definitely feel you Sine, the standard earplugs are no doubt cheesy! Hahah, cutting costs I'd guess...

But I guess a positive to those that want the obviously far superior soft/ridged earpro built to you, is that the standard plugs are removeable. I've heard that you can attach surefire plugs, etc if you want. Just needs a hole that can fit the wire and plug. Kind of like changing plugs on standard ipod earbuds.

I'm taking them to the range today w surefire plugs attached, I'll give you a heads up on how they go.

Till then, take care and be safe.

is everything going through the ear plugs? then why not just go with something like this?
unless I'm just missing some design feature of the IV.....

@Doc Drifter, Just give them a L-plug (looks like two small x-mas trees (as used on oxygen bottles), set in a 90 degree angle) that attaches to the plug and the tube. Those L-plugs are used by most companies (Peltor, Motorola, etc.) and you can switch them from head set to head set.

Joe,

I'm not 100% sure, but do those amplify ambient sounds and dampen off higher range Db's? If so, then hell yeah, that seems like a far more comfortable alternative. I guess its all in what you need for particular missions.

Sine,

I'll check out the L-shaped plugs, sounds like a good idea. At the range, they were pretty comfortable, now 8 hr CRP's? That may be a different story...

I can only hope they release the behind the head strap for this sucker or that the strap out now will work with the IV's...

Take care fellas,
Drifter

What is there purpose?
Is there a benefit in the same usage conditions as the ComTacII/I`?

From my limited testing time, the only benefit of the IV over its predecessors is that the whole system is lighter and a bit cooler to the ears in hot climates.
Downside is the reduced sound attenuation by the earplugs vs full earmuffs (especially indoor)...

As for Joe's question, the headset is different from the IV (as there's no ambiant noise amplification).

yes sir, i completely forgot about that function. off the bat they just looked like contac style with in the ear plugs. i didn't even think of the standard comtac features, and didn't even think possible really without the full cups.... they just look odd, but i can see they open ears being a little more comfy....

I dont know what they base recomendations of in certain situations using both plug and cup. Can there be any thing connected with that aspect? It compleetly suck communicating in those situations.

(even if this system doesn't solve that thys should definatly make a system that can integrerat a plug with a speaker.)
