Alright, case is officially done!!! well, pending stickers on outside for fun...

its a Storm (py Pelican) im3330
stuffed with two layers of fun!

since this is about the case, and not contents, i will not list
(unless mods require it...just let me know)

i chose this case as its about the same lenght as pelican 1700, but was deeper. i didnt want to go too long, to fit it all, so when i found this, i knew itd work!. its 5 pieces of foam. theres a high dense small sheet on bottom. then three thick layers. and final egg crate in lid.

so for bottom layer, i left that in place, and cut first thick layer. this fit the spr upper and 203 upper, and all those required accessories. also threw in a few back up optic. the second layer was then cut with reliefs for various items on first layer (scope knob and reflex site mainly). the ththird layer was then cut for primary and various items (pvs, parts box, sidearm, etc.) that layer was then glued to second. (all of this makes more sense in pics). so second layer had reliefs for bottom stuff, and top stuff sits on it as well. i found that the second and third layer would flex alot when removing and stuff would fall out of place, etc. so i took two aluminum rods from hardware store (about an inch shorter then foam) and ran them through the second layer length wise. i then tied some paracord to them, which game me two handle. so now, when i lift out top layer, its more like lifting a drawer or shelf. much more solid.

now the storm case has a smoother texture then pelican, but i think the locks are MUCH better, and the foam is slightly different. seems a little denser, which i like for cutting. if you want to just throw something it, and let it seat itsself, then pelican foam might work. this one also has wheels, and two rubbery handles. which are comfy.

and the cutting, i tried the hot wire stuff, but it just wasnt working. and after almost a day of almost burning the garage down, i got pissed, and used some new lang razor blades. it worked perfectly. maybe in part to the denser foam....

and mightmints did the painting, but he said that he has heard about the various foams and hot weapons (barrels) etc., so maybe he can comment more on that....

well, heres my pics....

the colt is going to be replaced soon....

but my inspiration, or back story is as follows...

An older team member team member, who has been around the way, has kinda been collecting what he likes so far. his CQBr upper was swapped out to the block II stuff obviously.... at one point he was issued a standard 14.5" SOPMOD. and he grew accustomed to the 203 setup, so he kept the upper when it came time to turn in... and at the beginning of OEF, he was in a green area of the country, and was working the issued SPR. well, when he was rotated out, he decided the SPR was setup to his liking, so he turned in just lower. So he has kinda kept what he liked and worked from the various roles he played on the team (sniper/recon, grenadier, etc...). so now, over his long career, he has acquired enough where he can fill many roles as needed, and setup a kinda complete AR in a box....

so, thats my inspiration.... ive put alot of thought into it, but thats the short and sweet of it. my wife calls me a dork about it...

Nice, great job man! I like the idea of having it all in one case.
BTW, I see you're providing shelter for 'Puss in Boots' :D

i pictured a guy who has "been there done that" like with a Hoot attitude from BHD... but looking like this:

sorry for my horrendous references and those who are the real deal prolly hate this, but in my mind thats what imagined.... :? im a very visual learner, and therefore my mind is very visual. everything goes through my head in pictures and cartoons and then when in action, its like a comic strip.... its a problem ive always had

Oh, it's THAT guy! Nevermind then... Army regulations on signed for weapon systems don't apply to him.

:D

Sorry dude, I couldn't resist. Again, good looking stuff and you certainly didn't lack anything in the imagination department.

Pelican does it if you give them the dimensions or you send your case with equipment.

I previosly worked as a designer at a waterjet company in Sweden and made a display item for Wareco (who is a distrubutor for Peli/Harddig/Storm cases in europe).
