We are using the Skedco marked petzl headlight with green lens as an issue item (nvis compatibility). Never had problems, so i bought a commercial one with red lens cover....which decided to stop working during a night work (thankfully little to no time was wasted due to backup).
i then went and bought a PRINCETON TEC EOS TACTICAL (which atleast here retails for roughly double the price of the tactikka). It is slighly bigger, but sturdier, 1 meter waterproof, it has only one led (1 watt/45 lumens). it comes with 3 filters, i mounted the red one. i like the fact that the filter is sliding, not hinged, so you can slide it half open if you need (i feared with vibrations it may come loose, but it still didn't after 4 years). Note that the filter is very thick, even with the maximum power it becomes no more than a map-reading red light. it has only one very recessed button. i forgot to add it is US made, and the light mode are low to high then blink, instead of the high to low the petzl has.
there is also a picture of me in a local paper, working on a casualty during a nighttime SAR with my trusty foliage green one with ucp camouflage band
